Police have confirmed that a joint investigation is underway to establish the cause of the fire as well as letting the public know that Rutherglen Police Office will be closed to the public today as a result of the blaze.

The fire was initially reported just after 11pm last night with nearby flats having been evacuated as a safety precaution and the fire service now advising locals to keep their windows and doors closed due to the extent of smoke.

Experts have designed sensors to help firefighters quickly map their surroundings, navigate hazardous environments and locate fire-scene victims.

The fire took hold on Cowdenbeath High Street at around 9.30am on Tuesday, 27 September.
