A huge fire continues to engulf a building in Glasgow city centre today, nearly 24 hours on from when it first started.
The blaze broke out on Kingston Street in the Tradeston area of the city, near the Barclays building, shortly before 10am on Sunday, October 16.
Emergency services, including Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, rushed to the scene in an effort to assist those involved and temper the flames.
Nine fire appliances were in attendance as well as tens of firefighters who fought to bring the blaze under control. It is understood crews remain on site today, as well as one fire appliance.
Road closures remain in place following the dramatic event, affecting Kingston St at Tradeston St to Commerce St, and from Nelson St at Commerce St to Tradeston St.
Officers have warned that this will impact traffic heading into the city or trying to reach the M8, M74 and M77. Motorists are being urged to plan ahead, use alternative routes if possible and expect delays on their commute.
The Tradeston vicinity also remains locked down to secure surrounding buildings. Footage taken of the incident yesterday showed white smoke wafting over the city centre. There were also reports of a smell of burning plastic.
It is believed no one has been injured in the incident. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Cordons are in place as the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service continue to extinguish a blaze and make secure surrounding buildings in the Tradeston area."
A SFRS spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 9.54am on Sunday, 16 October to reports of a fire affecting a building at Kingston Street, Glasgow.
“Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances and one height vehicle to the scene. There are no reported casualties. One appliance remains in attendance as crews continue to work to extinguish the fire.”
