50-year-old dies in Glasgow flat as fire breaks out in early hours of the morning

A man has been found dead after emergency services raced to a fire in a Glasgow flat.

The blaze broke out this morning at the property in Napier Place with crews arriving at the scene at 7.30am. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the flames, but sadly the 50-year-old was found dead at the scene.

A 56-year-old woman was treated for smoke inhalation by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Police have confirmed that an investigation is now underway into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

One local reported online being wakened by the commotion and seeing three fire engines, one ambulance and two police cars at the scene.

A police spokesman said: “Around 7.30 am on Wednesday, October 19, emergency services attended a report of fire at a flat in Napier Place, Govan.

“The fire was extinguished by SFRS and a 50-year-old man was found dead within the property.

“A 56-year-old woman was treated for smoke inhalation by SAS.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances and one height vehicle. The fire was extinguished, and crews left the scene at 8:35am.”
