Aer Lingus are facing a 'spike' in covid-19 infections amongst their staff and have been forced to cancel a number of flights with some impacting Edinburgh passengers.

Cancelled departures include EI650 to Frankfurt FRA, EI552 to Lyon, EI684 to Geneva, EI356 to Munich, EI610 to Amsterdam, and EI3250 to Edinburgh.

The Dublin legend shared a picture of overfilled bins and rubbish strewn on the floor at the airport on Monday with the caption: "First flight cancelled, second flight delayed by a long way so might miss the connection. Curse you, Dublin Airport."

With no hotel offered for Sunday night, the pair are now out of pocket by more than £600 between them

Some passengers have said they were only notified their flight was cancelled three hours before it was due to take off

One passenger said he had already arrived at the airport three hours before his flight, anticipating long queues, only to receive a message from the airline saying his flight was cancelled

The airline said the cancellations were the result of air traffic control strikes, ongoing issues at airports and a Covid spike among staff
