Oliver Oakes has resigned as principal of Alpine with immediate effect and former executive advisor Flavio Briatore is taking over his duties

Alpine team principal Oliver Oakes has responded to comments from Otmar Szafnauer hitting out at the Renault leadership, asserting his Formula 1 team is "very lucky to have that support".

Otmar Szafnauer is a very experienced F1 team principal having worked with Force India, Racing Point, Aston Martin and Alpine, with strong track record of getting bang for buck. He was fired by Alpine year ago, over a disagreement with Alpine management on what was the right pathway to success.

Hamilton claimed an emotional victory at last weekend's British Grand Prix as it ended 945 days without a win in Formula 1.

"I think multiple triple-headers are not sustainable," said former Racing Point team boss Otmar Szafnauer in September 2020.

Renault has also introduced a similar position at its power unit base in Viry, promoting Audrey Vastroux, who has been with the organisation for 18 years.

The grand prix veteran is well known in F1 circles, having spent 34-years at his previous Enstone employer under its various guises as Benetton, Renault, Lotus and most recently Alpine.
