Cyclone Mocha, currently located in the eastern Bay of Bengal, is likely to be stronger than initially forecast but poses little threat to India, with all of its fury likely to be concentrated in Myanmar and parts of Bangladesh, suggests the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Cyclone Mocha intensified into a "very severe" cyclonic storm today over the southeast and adjoining areas of central Bay of Bengal, officials said on Friday.

A well-marked low-pressure area lies over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm on May 10, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The cyclonic storm Mocha, which will intensify into a depression on May 9, is unlikely to have any impact on polling day May 10

A ‘low pressure area (LPA),’ or a precursor to a cyclone has been formed over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea, the Director General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed on May 8.
