Heatwaves end in Andhra Pradesh, monsoon rains likely in coming days

VISAKHAPATNAM: The heatwave that has been gripping Andhra Pradesh for the past few weeks has finally ended on Monday.

The IMD has forecast that temperatures will start to further decrease from Tuesday and parts of the both coastal and Rayalaseema districts of the state will experience light to heavy rain from Tuesday.

The IMD issued a fresh alert of heavy rainfall at isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning at isolated places in coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) and Rayalaseema on Tuesday and Wednesday. Strong winds of speed 30 to 40 kmph likely at isolated places over CAP and Rayalaseema

Heatwave is now over in Andhra Pradesh, and the mercury levels will dip further in the coming days in many parts of Andhra Pradesh due to advancement of southwest monsoon.

The light to moderate rainfall in parts of the state on Sunday night and a cloudy sky on Monday dragged the Celsius down on Monday, bringing much needed relief from the sweltering conditions and prompting many people to resume outdoor activities in many parts of the state on Monday.

Speaking to TOI, Dr S Karuna Sagar, a scientist at the India Meteorological Department in Amaravati, said that the heatwave finally ended in entire Andhra Pradesh on Monday as only three stations_ Nandigama, Jangamaheswara Puram in Palnadu district and Bapatla witnessed heatwave conditions on Monday and there will be no heat wave from Tuesday.

The mercury in many parts of the state went down on Monday because of rain and cloudy weather conditions.

A day ago, on June 18, the maximum temperature in Tuni town in Kakinada district was 41.7°C. The mercury in Tuni went down to 31.3°C on Monday. Similarly, the mercury went down by 10.1°C to 32°C in Kakinada Town on Monday. The mercury levels dipped between 4 to 10°C in the state on Monday and only five stations in the state recorded above 40°C on Monday. Jangamaheswara Puram in Palnadu district registered the highest temperature of 42.4 degrees Celsius in the state on Monday.

The Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Westcentral and Northwest Bay of Bengal; some parts of Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand, some more parts of Bihar and remaining parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Monday. As per Andhra Pradesh concern, the monsoon spread to Kavali locality in Nellore and the conditions are favorable for further advance of the monsoon over some ore parts of the Andhra Pradesh in the coming days, said Karuna Sagar.

Rainfall occurred at few places over coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) and at one or two places over Rayalaseema on Sunday night. Garugubilli in Manyam district recorded 7 cm rainfall, followed by 5 cm rainfall in Balijipeta of Manyam district, 4 cm rainfall each at Pusapatirega, Gajapathinagaram, Mentada and Bondapalli in Vizianagaram district and at Ranastahlam in Srikakulam district, he added.
