Wayne Rooney details fights with father as Coleen opens up on "unacceptable" scandals

Wayne Rooney has opened up about his physical childhood growing up in Liverpool, with wife Coleen Rooney forgiving the star yet again despite labelling his actions as "unacceptable".

The former Manchester United star revealed that his father would hit him as a child, and admitted that he wasn't the "nicest kid" growing up, and Coleen has let him off once more for poor decisions that have been made during Rooney's adult life.

Rooney's childhood sweetheart Coleen has been rocked by many scandals throughout their 13-year marriage, and opened has now up on his latest antics.

The current Derby County manager will be the subject of an Amazon Prime documentary in early 2022, and has detailed aspects of his childhood that will 'never leave him'.

In an emotional scene released as a teaser for the documentary, Rooney opened up about his childhood where he would regularly fight in Croxteth, Liverpool, and admitted that his father would hit him.

Rooney said: "I was brought up to fight... fight for everything. That will never leave me. I grew up in Croxteth. If you're from there, you don't think it's a violent place.

"I've had full on arguments with my dad and he'd give me a slap. I wasn't the nicest kid. I had a lot of fights when I was younger."

Rooney's troubled childhood spilled into his adult life, but the United icon is intent on not being remembered for his actions off the field, as he said: "What people don't understand is, you're 17 years of age... there's going to be mistakes made.

"People still look at me in a different way. But it's important that people remember me for who I am rather than what I've done."

Coleen also broke her silence on Rooney's latest antics, as the Derby boss was pictured in a room with models after a drunken night out, and revealed in another scene from the documentary: "I forgive him but it wasn't acceptable."

Coleen went on to say: "A few people are probably thinking I am stupid for staying in my marriage. I am not stupid, I know my own mind and it's something I want to try and work on.

"He's made silly and selfish mistakes, some he's learnt from, some obviously not. However maybe that will change?"

The pair started their relationship when she was just 16, and admitted that her husband's drunken antics have been a constant problem throughout their time together as she said: "I knew groups Wayne was hanging around with. Together with alcohol... not good."

Rooney has been at the centre of several scandals throughout their relationship, but the mum-of-four is keen to work on their marriage and do what's best for their children.

Coleen said: "It's my decision …. do I love Wayne … yes I do. If I didn't then I wouldn't be trying to make it work. I know I would be fine on my own, with just me and my children, but I don't want to live like that, I want to try and continue our marriage and live as a family, because that’s what I want to do."
