A substitute teacher in Texas was removed from campus after inviting Immigration and Customs Enforcement to conduct a raid at the high school he worked at over social media, stating that many students "don't even speak English".
An investigation was launched into the incident by the Fort Worth Independent School District after an unnamed substitute teacher took to X (formerly Twitter) to invite ICE to the school he worked at, reported NBCDFW.
"Come to Fort Worth, TX to Northside High School. I have many students who don't even speak English and they are in 10th-11th grade. They have to communicate through their iPhone translator with me. The @usedgov should totally overhaul our school system in Texas too," he wrote.
The post sparked outrage amongst parents and teachers alike at Northside High School. The student body of Fort Worth Independent School District is two-thirds Hispanic, with one-third being English language learners.
"Please be assured that we are taking this situation very seriously and are committed to resolving it as quickly as possible," said Fort Worth ISD School Board President Roxanne Martinez in a statement.
The district further announced that the teacher who made the post would not be returning to classrooms, with Interim Superintendent Karen Molinar stating that the district would focus on "supporting all families."
"We are aware of a recent social media post referencing North Side High School which was allegedly made by a substitute teacher and has caused concern among our Fort Worth ISD community," Fort Worth ISD said in a statement.
The district continued to announce its investigation and stated that the substitute teacher would not return to campus while the investigation was ongoing.
"We are committed to maintaining a positive and supportive environment for all students," they continued.
