Nostradamus' unsettling 2023 predictions feature cannibals and Mars 'disaster'

Infamous French mystic Nostradamus published a ream of predictions nearly 500 years ago - and some have already come true.

Also known as Michel de Nostradame, the prophet's book has already made accurate predictions on Hitler's rise to power, World War II as well as the French revolution - with most coming true.

It is said that the French astrologer even foresaw John F Kennedy's assassination as well as the 9/11 terror attacks in New York City. Although his prophecies do not give full details, such as specific time and dates, he has forecast a number of outcomes for the new year.

So as 2022 comes to a close, read on to learn what the clairvoyant thinks will happen next year, as reported by the Mirror.

If any of them are to come true, we're in for a grim 2023.

A failing economy that could lead to cannibalism

Amid his many prophecies, Nostradamus predicts that cannibalism due to a failing economy could be on the horizon in the near future.

The mystic wrote: "No abbots, monks, no novices to learn; Honey shall cost far more than candle-wax.

"So high the price of wheat. That man is stirred. His fellow man to eat in his despair"

This seemingly predicts that the cost of living crisis will continue into 2023, with many hoping that the reference to cannibalism is metaphorical.

'A great war'

Another prediction that stands out for 2023 is 'a great war'.

One line in Nostradamus' book particularly stands out and reads: "Seven months great war, people dead through evil. Rouen, Evreux shall not fall to the King."

This prediction could be a reference to the current conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

Disaster on Mars could spark headache for Elon Musk

Nostradamus predicts in his book that mankind's quest to colonise Mars, spearheaded by tech entrepreneur and Twitter owner Elon Musk, could come to a grinding halt in 2023.

The prophet wrote that there would be a "celestial fire when the lights of Mars will go out".

With Space X and Elon doubling down on their promise that "the Mars plan is moving forwards", something terrible could be in store for the first humans that eventually make it to the red planet.

'Dry earth grows more parched' before 'great floods'

The environment could take another hit in 2023, according to Nostradamus' predictions.

"The dry earth will grow more parched, and there will be great floods when the rainbow is seen", the astrologer writes.

As climate change continues to worsen, this prediction doesn't seem too far fetched for the year ahead.

In 2022, England faced one of its hottest summers on record. The Met Office revealed that the country had just 56 per cent (46.3mm) of its average rainfall in July.

The lack of rainfall meant that this was the driest July in Scotland since 1836, a side effect of global warming that could continue into 2023.

'Dreadful horrors' and riots in the streets

Nostradamus wrote in his book: "Sooner or later you will see great changes made – dreadful horrors and vengeances."

This prediction hints that more social upheaval and civil unrest could take place in the upcoming months.

The prophet goes on to write about "trumpets shaking with great discord" and "an agreement broken", hinting yet again at some form of revolt or revolution somewhere on Earth next year.

This year, Iran saw weeks of riots following the murder of Mahsa Amini for not wearing her Hijab correctly and it wouldn't be a surprise if more riots were to take place in 2023.
