The Met Office has warned that part of the North East is at risk flooding with heavy rain forecast over the weekend.
The leading meteorologists have issued a yellow weather warning with heavy downpours potentially causing flooding and disruption in the region. The warning is currently in place between 9pm on Friday and 12pm on Saturday in the County Durham area.
The Met Office has forecast heavy outbreaks of rain which are set to arrive in the North East on Friday evening before persisting overnight into Saturday. With conditions already very wet this is likely to cause some flooding, they have warned.

Here is the full warning which has been issued by the Met Office: "Outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, will move in from the southwest on Friday evening then persist overnight into Saturday.
"20 to 30 mm rain is likely quite widely with 40 to 50 mm on some hills. With conditions already very wet this is likely to cause some flooding.
"The rain will also be accompanied by strong winds, with gusts of 40-50 mph and possibly 60 mph on some exposed coasts in the south. The rain and strong winds will clear eastwards during Saturday daytime."

- Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
- Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
- Some interruption to power supplies and other services likely
Forecast looking ahead to the weekend
For Saturday, you should expect the following: "Rain, heavy at times, for much of Saturday with snow on higher ground. Rain clearing later, but with showers possible after the rain.
"Feeling cool in a strengthening wind. Maximum temperature 6C."
On Sunday, the forecast is as follows: "Turning colder through Sunday with sunshine and some wintry showers through the next few days.
"Increasingly frosty nights with some ice likely. Feeling cold, especially in the occasionally strong winds."
