Elton John's private jet suffers failure at 10,000ft and has to make emergency landing

Sir Elton John's private jet was forced to make an emergency landing after suffering a terrifying failure at 10,000ft.

The plane had to abort landing twice after winds reached 80mph, and fire crews raced to Farnborough Airport, Hants after the craft had to make an emergency landing, reports The Sun.

Emergency crews, including ambulances and police, were alerted an hour after the plane took off.

The Mirror has contacted Elton's representatives for comment.

A witness told the publication: “The jet was being buffeted and couldn’t land. It was horrible to see.”

He left for New York in his private jet at 10.20am. The aircraft then suffered hydraulic failure around an hour into the flight.

This meant that the plane had to U-turn while approaching the coast of southern Ireland.

A plumber, who was working when he saw the plane, said: "The terrible weather and epic gusts made it almost impossible to land. Two attempts to touch down failed.

“The plane was being buffeted and couldn’t make it. The aircraft’s nose was far too vertical. The plane was descending and was halfway along the runway when it gave up trying to hit the tarmac. It soared back in the air."

It apparently took three times before the plane was able to land.

It comes a month after he had to cancel two concerts after testing positive for coronavirus.

He is fully vaccinated and only experienced mild symptoms.

At the time, a statement was released saying: "It is with great regret that the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour dates in Dallas set for Tuesday, January 25 and Wednesday, January 26 must be postponed due to Elton recently testing positive for COVID-19.

"Fortunately, Elton is fully vaccinated and boosted, and is experiencing only mild symptoms. Fans should hold on to their tickets as they will be honored at the rescheduled dates to be announced soon."

It continued: "Elton and the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour look forward to returning to the stage shortly."
