Like Glasgow the area feels it has missed out on vital investment to help its recovery and the council has backed Glasgow's move to contact the UK and Scottish Governments over the issue.

In an emotional meeting councillors spoke about the pain of losing a parent at a young age as they backed calls for more support.

Currently community teams face bills of up to £350 a month for three hours a week on Astroturf parks, with a warning issued that a further price hike could be “catastrophic.”

The West Dumbarton Activity Centre in Brucehill is one of seven facilities which could close or move to community ownership as the local authority attempts to close a £14million budget shortfall.

Members arriving at Church Street were greeted by a well-attended and vocal protest organised by the local Joint Trade Unions, with attendees pleading for cuts to be avoided.

The service is currently provided to around 1200 pupils in schools across the district but officials are reviewing which routes can be cut.

At a full meeting of West Dunbartonshire Council last week, members agreed to a five percent rent rise – equating to an average rise of £4.22 per week – to help the cash strapped local authority as it attempts to balance the books, with a four percent increase initially recommended…
