As a religious event turned into a site of chaos at Hathras in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, families of hundreds of dead and injured scrambled to locate their loved ones – searching hospitals across the region “without much help” from the administration.  

At least 120 people, mostly women, have died at a religious gathering for Hindu guru Bhole Baba.

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the SC on Wednesday seeking direction to appoint a five-member expert committee under the supervision of a retired Top Court judge to enquire into the Hathras stampede incident where more than 120 people were killed on July 2.
