JUPITER, Fla. — Miami Marlins chairman and principal owner Bruce Sherman said in a statement Monday that the organization and CEO Derek Jeter have “agreed to officially end their relationship” after four MLB seasons.

The Hall of Famer handed the union a win when he stepped down as Marlins CEO on the same day as MLB’s imposed deadline.

Jeter announced the surprise departure after 4 1/2 mostly unsuccessful years that didn’t come remotely close to matching his success as a player for the New York Yankees.
