CHICAGO — At least nine people were killed and about 50 others wounded during the Memorial Day weekend, the traditional start of the Chicago’s summer events and violence.

Two years after Mayor Lightfoot slammed Supt. David Brown for a Memorial Day weekend “bloodbath,” her office struck a different tone — even though more people were shot this year.

A federal lawsuit said the seventh grader who ran away from an allegedly stolen car was shot in the back, posed no threat.

Mayoral challenger Ald. Ray Lopez (15th) is leading the call for the city’s top cop to appear before the “Committee of the Whole” — meaning, all 50 alderpersons. He was joined by 29 colleagues, including several of the mayor’s hand-picked committee chairs.

Jaylun Sanders, 21, faces two counts of first-degree murder in the shooting. A second man, 20-year-old Kameron Abram, faces weapons and trespassing charges, police said.

During a news conference earlier in the week, Police Supt. David Brown declined to offer any clear defense of the officer, saying, “I’m not going to testify for the officer. No, the officer needs to write his own statement.”
