Supercars approved a revised rear aero package for the Mustang ahead of this weekend's Townsville 500 in a bid to help find parity with the Chevrolet Camaro.

The Erebus driver put in a controlled performance over 250 kilometres to score a fourth victory of the season so far.

The Matt Stone Racing driver, on a high after a second career win in Darwin last time out, gapped the field by two-tenths in the second and final practice session in Townsville.

Parity has been a major talking point since Darwin with the series undertaking an official review following another Camaro whitewash.

The Gen3 Camaro continued its dominant run at Hidden Valley, the GM product having been first across the line in all 15 races so far this season - although Tickford Mustang driver Cam Waters inherited victory in the Newcastle season opener when both Triple Eight Camaros were disqualified. 

The 20-year-old has made an impressive start to life in the Supercars system, with two wins from the four second-tier Super2 races so far this season.

The 100 per cent winning streak continued for the Camaro across the weekend with Chevs filling the eight of the nine podium spots on offer across the three races.

The back-to-back qualifying got off to a remarkable start, the first 15-minute session throwing up some huge surprises.

Waters was leading the opening heat of the Darwin Triple Crown when his Mustang burst into flames in the engine bay at the start of the fifth lap.
