Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Curt Schilling were passed over by a Baseball Hall of Fame committee that elected former big league slugger Fred McGriff to Cooperstown on Sunday

Many members of the 16-person committee had Chicago ties.

Bonds and Clemens have been accused of using performance-enhancing drugs, and support for Curt Schilling dropped after he made hateful remarks toward Muslims, transgender people, reporters and others.

Their fates are in the hands of a 16-member electorate that includes seven Hall of Fame players, including Ryne Sandberg and Frank Thomas.

CHICAGO — After years of debate over the Hall of Fame worthiness of players linked to performance-enhancing drugs, baseball’s Steroids Era stands trial this weekend in San Diego at the 2022 winter meetings.

Barry Bonds was kept out of Cooperstown via the traditional route, but the Hall of Fame’s doors haven’t completely shut on baseball’s controversial home run king.

Any players elected will be inducted into the Hall at Cooperstown on July 23.
