Reds rookie sensation Elly De La Cruz has been a big difference-maker during his first few months in the majors. After cooling off a bit following a scalding hot June, the 21-year-old appears to be finding his groove once again.
On Sunday, De La Cruz became the second fastest MLB player since 1900 to reach 10 or more home runs and 15 or more stolen bases in his career, according to ESPN Stats and Info.
The young shortstop hit his 10th home run of the season during Cincinnati’s clash against the Pirates, the 58th game of his career. Only Barry Bonds achieved those statistical feats faster, needing just 57 games to record 10 homers and 15 steals during his rookie season in Pittsburgh back in 1986.
De La Cruz debuted for Cincinnati in June and has quickly become a fan favorite due to his blend of power and speed.

He’s joined some elite company in league history following his latest accomplishment, standing alone with MLB’s home run king.
Just last season, Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez became the fastest player in MLB history to record 15 home runs and 20 stolen bases. It took him 81 games to reach those marks. That record isn’t out of reach for De La Cruz, who would need five home runs and three stolen bases over his next 23 games to tie the record.
