The Indian junior women’s hockey team’s maiden Asia Cup triumph has given hopes of an improved performance at the Junior World Cup later this year, but the girls might have to wait a while before making the transition to the senior side.

The Asian Cricket Council, headed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah, is expected to approve PCB’s proposed ‘hybrid model’ for conducting four non-India Asia Cup games in Pakistan while the rest of the matches will be played in Sri Lanka’s Galle and Pallekele.

India’s junior men’s hockey team maintained its continental supremacy as it beat arch-rivals Pakistan 2-1 to emerge Asia Cup champions for the fourth time here on Thursday.

Najam Sethi said he wanted an amicable solution for the Asia Cup which could pave the way for both nations to compete against each other in other major tournaments at a neutral venue.

The Cricket World Cup is less than five months away and could yet see its schedule plunge into chaos amid an impasse involving Pakistan, India and the Asia Cup
