Suntory Spirits Ltd. announced Tuesday that the company is raising the price of Beaujolais Nouveau wine imported from France that will go on sale in Japan this autumn.
The suggested retail price of the wine will be up to 120% higher than last year. The main reason for the price increase that will hit the annually popular wine is the rise of fuel prices, resulting in a sharp increase in air cargo rates.
Beaujolais Nouveau wine will go on sale from Nov. 17. The price of a 750-milliliter bottle of Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau 2022 Selection de Duboeuf will be 3,850, yen tax included, which is 40% more expensive than last year, according to the company. The price of a 375-milliliter bottle of the same wine will be 3,080, yen 120% higher than last year.
According to Suntory Spirits, which imports and sells Beaujolais Nouveau every year, the price of the wine released shortly after this year's harvest is going up, and the rapidly weakening yen is a factor as well.
