Only Fools and Horses star David Jason makes a rare red carpet appearance with family

Only Fools And Horses star David Jason made a rare appearance on the red carpet on Thursday night for the opening of Cirque du Soleil's LUZIA.

The 81-year-old funnyman was spotted at the event at London's Royal Albert Hall alongside his wife Gill, 62, their 20-year-old daughter Sophie-Mae and her friend.

He seemed in good spirits as he beamed next to his wife and daughter during the family night out.

David looked smart as he wore a pair of bright orange suit trousers and a black blazer, topping off the look with a cap.

Meanwhile, wife Gill looked glamorous in a black and silver sequinned dress.

His daughter and her friend looked excited to be there as they posed with David and Gill.

David, who is best known for playing the iconic role of Del Boy in sitcom Only Fools and Horses, looked happier after a tough end to 2021.

His friend and co-star John Challis died in September at the age of 79. John played Terrance 'Boycie' Boyce on the comedy series.

Speaking about his beloved pal on This Morning, David said: "It wasn't a complete surprise because poor old John hadn't been well for the last month or two.

"But it seems he went downhill so fast, very rapidly that one minute we were thinking he was on the road to recovery and sadly it just took him quite swiftly, so we’re still suffering a bit of shock I’m afraid."

David added: "I am pleased that he witnessed the outpouring of admiration recently shown for the 40th anniversary of the first episode in 1981.

"I send my love and condolences to his wife, Carol."

In recent days, David shared his thoughts on The Darling Buds of May reboot.

He played Sidney Charles 'Pop' Larkin in the ITV show from 1991 to 1993.

And he has shared his opinion on the 2021 adaption.

He said to Mail Online: "It's not quite as good as the original. I didn't really need to give them advice though. It was a bit surreal to see it come through, deja vu-ish."

David is still very much hard at work, as he lifted the lid on upcoming projects.

He added: "I’ve been very busy in writing and creating documentaries, just trying to get the channels interested.

"I’m more on the creative side, still waiting for Tom Cruise to employ me in Mission Impossible."
