Authorities in Florida responded to a disturbing incident where a 48-year-old man, identified as Addiel Herrera, allegedly attacked his neighbor with a knife following a dispute. The incident, which took place on Dec. 28, unfolded at a duplex in Lee County.
According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office (LCSO), the altercation began when Herrera and his neighbor, a woman whose identity has not been disclosed, engaged in an argument. The situation escalated when Herrera reportedly retrieved a knife as the woman attempted to protect herself by closing her garage and locking her doors.
Herrera proceeded to bang on the victim's door and upon her opening it, he entered and slashed at her, causing an injury to her hand. The victim managed to push Herrera out of the door, but he continued to stab the door multiple times in a fit of rage.
Deputies swiftly located Herrera in his garage, where he was apprehended. Body camera footage captured the tense moment as a deputy instructed Herrera to surrender, with his hands visibly covered in blood. Herrera complied and was taken into custody, facing charges of armed burglary with assault. He is currently being held without bond at the Lee County Jail.
Further investigation revealed that Herrera has a history of violent offenses, including a previous arrest for battery and resisting an officer in September. Sheriff Carmine Marceno condemned Herrera's actions, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards violence in Lee County.
The root of the dispute was traced back to a comment made by a man regarding a family member of the suspect. Sheriff Marceno expressed concern over Herrera's criminal record, labeling him as a threat to the community.
As the case unfolds, authorities are working to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in Lee County, sending a clear message that violent behavior will not be tolerated.
