McDonald's fans fuming as the chain announces delay to return of popular item

McDonald’s fans have been left fuming as the return of their beloved Chicken Legend burger was delayed.

All three varieties of the popular burger were removed from the fast food chain’s menu as the firm launched its Christmas offerings.

Customers were told at the time that they would start seeing the Chicken Legend once again from January, the Mirror reports.

But punters have been crying out for the burger’s return this month - but this is yet to materialise.

One person wrote on Twitter: “McDonald’s discontinuing the Chicken Legend is a serious, serious crime.”

Another asked: "When is the Chicken Legend coming back in the UK? I am having withdrawals."

The Mirror approached McDonald’s for comment.

However, the fast food giant said on social media that the popular burger would now be back in February.

McDonald's said on Twitter: "Whilst the Festive Crispy Chicken is on sale, we will temporarily remove all Chicken Legend variants from sale in the UK. The range will return to the menu in February."

The Chicken Legend also disappeared from McDonald's in October last year due to supply chain issues.

Previous studies found that the Chicken Legend might be a fan favourite - but it's not great for the planet.

Producing the Chicken Legend with mayonnaise involves pumping out 900g of polluting carbon dioxide - the equivalent of driving 3.02 miles in an average UK petrol car.

The worst McDonald's burger for the environment is the Double Big Mac, which produces 4.46kg of carbon dioxide.

That's the same as driving 14.95 miles.

Last week McDonald's launched a new loyalty scheme, meaning customers can earn reward points and get free meals .

The scheme, MyMcDonald’s Rewards, lets customers build up points then cash them in for loads of free food - or a charity donation.

The rewards scheme is being piloted in 10 McDonald's restaurants in the North of England, from today.

If it works it will be expanded to a further 65 stores this month, then to all outlets across the country by the end of the year.

Customers will earn 100 points for every £1 they spend.
