A devastating incident occurred in Philadelphia on Friday night when a medevac jet carrying a pediatric patient and her mother crashed into a residential neighborhood, resulting in the loss of seven lives and causing significant injuries to many others.
Among the casualties were all six individuals aboard the twin-engine medevac, as well as one person in a car on the ground. Additionally, at least 22 individuals on the ground sustained injuries, with three in critical condition as confirmed by Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker on Sunday.
Efforts to determine the cause of the crash are ongoing, with investigators retrieving the cockpit voice recorder on Sunday to aid in the investigation. The tragic incident led to the destruction of at least 11 residential properties in the neighborhood.
As a response to the disaster, local officials have made shelter available at a nearby high school for those affected by the crash. The community remains in shock and mourning following the tragic event.
The six individuals aboard the medevac were Mexican nationals, including a child who had received medical treatment at Shriners Children Hospital in Philadelphia and her mother. They were en route to Mexico after the girl's treatment, with the flight's final destination set for Tijuana.
The flight crew members who lost their lives in the crash were identified as Capt. Alan Montoya Perales, co-pilot Josue de Jesus Juarez, Dr. Raul Meza Arredondo, and paramedic Rodrigo Lopez Padilla, all of whom were Mexican nationals as well.
