The evacuation alert was issued Tuesday morning after the water level of the Yamuna crossed the 206-metre mark

The Delhi flood control room said the water level crossed the warning mark at 1 a.m. on September 26 and rose to 204.7 metres by 8 a.m.

Water levels of Yamuna and Betwa rivers in the Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh have risen, causing a flood-like situation in the area. Read more on Dynamite News:

Downward trend likely to continue in Yamuna water level

Delhi flood control room said the water level breached the danger mark and reached 205.99 metres on August 13 morning

On May 23, the New Delhi Municipal Council released a report which stated that water shortage in the national capital had hit areas under the council. Several localities such as Lutyens received only 50-60 percent of normal potable water supply in the last 10 days.

“Delhi does not have enough water downstream the Wazirabad Barrage to maintain environmental flow in the river.”

No dirty water will be flowing into the Yamuna by December-end as all drains carrying sewage into the river will be tapped, a senior official said.

As heavy rains ravage many states in North India, a flood alert was issued earlier this week in parts of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. The Delhi government issued an advisory stating, “People in low-lying areas to vacate their place as the water level neared warning level in the Yamuna river.”
