The Volkswagen Group of America, which includes the core VW marques plus Audi, Lamborghini and other brands, is getting a new CEO whose last stint was at the California-based electric vehicle startup. And it's a homecoming of sorts…

Pablo Di Si, CEO of Volkswagen Group and Volkswagen Brand for North America, has resigned. The German automaker announced the news on Tuesday, though it's not clear exactly when he stepped down. In a press release, VW states Di Si "stepped down from his position on his own request." 

Plants building the ID.3, T-Roc Cabriolet, and Porsche 718 variants could get the axe as VW Group tries to cut costs.
