Millions of people have been visiting Prayagraj, a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, to take part in the Maha Kumbh festival – a six-week-long event that began on Jan. 13, 2025.

The Uttar Pradesh government has officially claimed 30 deaths during the stampede at the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj last week. The Adityanath-led administration was already under fire for the curious delay in announcing the death toll, and for mismanagement that allegedly precipitated the stampede.

After remaining tight-lipped about the death toll of the January 29 stampede at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj for hours, the Uttar Pradesh administration was quick to blame a “frenzied” crowd for the mishap when it finally issued an official statement on the number of casualties. 

Brijesh Tiwari, station in-charge of Soraon police station, has been suspended after a video went viral in which he was allegedly seen dumping soil in a food vessel at a 'Bhandara' in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj, the police said. Read further on Dynamite News:
