Fifteen trucks carrying food aid entered Ethiopia's Tigray region on Wednesday, the United Nations's food agency said, as humanitarian groups gain access for the first time since a ceasefire agreement was signed two weeks ago.

Two trucks carrying medical supplies arrived in the capital of Ethiopia's Tigray region on Tuesday, the International Committee of the Red Cross said, in what it called the first aid delivery to the region since fighting resumed in August.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed vowed on Tuesday "to implement honestly" a ceasefire agreement between his government and forces in Tigray, which he said was necessary to ensure peace proved sustainable.

Both parties have agreed to protect civilians and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region of more than 5 million people, according to a copy of the agreement seen by the AP.
