Cyclone Biparjoy, the first storm brewing in the Arabian Sea in 2023, intensified by 40 knots (74 kmph) since June 6 morning, according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Centre (JTWC). Meteorologists are predicting a “mild” monsoon onset over Kerala and “weak” progress beyond southern peninsular under its influence.

The first cyclone in the Arabian Sea this year is likely to take shape in 12 hours, according to a weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here on Tuesday. The cyclone will be named Biparjoy as suggested by Bangladesh
