The Metropolitan Police will appeal against a High Court ruling that it breached the rights of organisers of a vigil for Sarah Everard with its handling of the planned event, the force has said.

Wayne Couzens, 49, has been accused of four offences in January and February last year, before the murder of Sarah Everard.

A former London police officer, who was jailed for life last year for a rape and murder that horrified the nation, was charged on Friday with four new counts of indecent assault which took place just weeks earlier.

The Crown Prosecution Service made the announcement on Friday.

Sarah Everard’s killer Wayne Couzens has been charged with four counts of indecent exposure, which allegedly took place between January and February last year, the Crown Prosecution Service said.

The case centres on alleged WhatsApp messages on a group chat which were sent on six dates between April and August 2019
