Microsoft might acquire the ChatGPT maker within the next three years. An analyst predicts the AI hype is quickly fading, and startups like OpenAI will be forced into unceremonious acquisitions by investors with vast resources like Microsoft.

The 76-year-old argued it’s “unfortunate” that Altman has put profits over AI safety.

ChatGPT-maker OpenAI has become an AI powerhouse after securing Silicon Valley's largest-ever funding round.

OpenAI received $6.6 billion in investment recently and is now valued at $157 billion. Interestingly, OpenAI does not want it its investors to fund competition and has reportedly shared a list of companies to stay away from.

OpenAI did not name the investors, but reports said that the funding round was led by New York-based venture capital firm Thrive Capital, including the company's biggest backer Microsoft and new participants, chipmaker Nvidia and SoftBank, among others.

One group is doubling down on optimism over AI; the other is fighting it out of fear.

NVIDIA recently unveiled powerful open-source multimodal large language models (LLMs) dubbed NVLM 1.0 with the flagship model, NVLM-D-72B featuring up to 72 billion parameters.

The departure of OpenAI Chief Scientist Ilya Sutskever raised concern among top officials in the firm behind the curtains. They reportedly tried to get the Chief Scientist back on the team by extending him a new and possibly lucrative deal, but their efforts were turned down.

OpenAI has officially closed its funding round with a $157 billion market capitalization after raising $6.6 billion from many big tech corporations, including Microsoft, NVIDIA, SoftBank, and more.
