One day after Sam Mayer kept his Xfinity Series playoffs alive with an all-or-nothing victory at the Roval, Busch found himself in position to do the same in Sunday’s Cup race.

Busch, who spun on his own in last week’s race at Texas Motor Speedway, had a competitive run going in Sunday’s race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway until a bizarre incident unfolded on the last lap of the first 60-lap stage.

Elton Sawyer, NASCAR's senior vice president of competition, said in an interview on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Tuesday morning, that the sanctioning body has elected to reintegrate stage break cautions for the only remaining road course this season - the Xfinity and Cup playoff races on Oct. 7 and 8.

Mike Rockenfeller got his first taste of NASCAR this year, running two Cup races at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International, and later at the Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway Roval.
