The Delhi High court judge on Thursday asked former JNU student leader Shehla Rashid to file a response to the affidavit filed by the News Broadcaster and Digital Standard Authority (NBDSA). Read further on Dynamite News:

Noting that a Zee News broadcast on population growth had “disproportionately focused only on one community, the News Broadcasting and Digital Standards Authority has asked the channel to air the authority’s observations through 24 hourly tickers between March 6 and March 7.

In his show last October, News18 India’s Aman Chopra “targeted, vilified and castigated the entire Muslim community for the actions of a few miscreants” and gave an incident a “communal tilt”. 

A statement issued yesterday by the Delhi Union of Journalists said a Media Council needs to be set up on a priority basis to replace “the toothless Press Council and the NBDSA which more than often is a prisoner of indecision.”

The News Broadcasting and Digital Standards Authority on Wednesday imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on News18 India and directed the channel to take down a show by anchor Aman Chopra on Karnataka’s hijab ban. 

Noting that a News18 India broadcast on “thook jihad” last year amounted to “targeting of a particular community”, the news broadcasting and digital standards authority has asked the network to take down the show within seven days.
