The NASCAR Cup star went out sixth among the 34 drivers, speeding to a quick opening lap of 232.719mph in the No. 17 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet, which is also co-owned by legendary NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick.

The session for the 17 eligible drivers and teams already locked in the All-Star Race main event on Sunday night has been rescheduled for 11:40 p.m. ET a.m. Saturday following Truck Series qualifying.

The practice on Friday included drivers already qualified for the All-Star Race main event as well as those who will run in the preliminary All-Star Open event on Sunday.

Speedway Motorsports, for whom Gossage worked for more than 30 years, made the announcement Thursday evening on behalf of Gossage’s family.

Brad Keselowski snapped a 110-race winless streak at Darlington, prevailing in a thrilling late-race duel between himself, Chris Buescher and Tyler Reddick. The other two finished deep in the field after some side-to-side contact resulted in flat tires for both drivers.
