Manipur Police DGP Rajiv Singh has said the state government and police are extremely serious about tackling the drug menace and several intiatives have been taken to tighten security along the Indo-Myanmar border from where drugs are entering the state.

Manipur CM Biren Singh said that the State government was forced to impose internet ban because some elements always try to take advantage of the situation and create trouble.

“They could have used water cannons or lathi-charged the students. But why did they have to use pellet guns to attack student protesters? Have they used pellet guns on school students protesting in Delhi, Mumbai or other parts of mainland India? Then why Manipur?”
