In recent weeks, Ducati developed an ideal scenario for the next two years in MotoGP. In the eyes of its executives, this would play well with eight-time world champion Marc Marquez and current standings leader Jorge Martin, whose renewals became a priority once Francesco Bagnaia was secured in March.

The MotoGP silly season is in full swing heading into Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix at Mugello, with all eyes on the battle to fill the vacant factory seat at Ducati alongside Francesco Bagnaia.

Quartararo was unlucky to retire from Saturday’s sprint race at Mugello on lap two of 11 when Miguel Oliveira crashed his Trackhouse Aprilia in front of him at Turn 10 following a failed attempt to overtake the Frenchman, leaving the former with nowhere to go.

While seven races are still to run this year, the grid for the 2025 MotoGP season is already complete.

The six-time MotoGP world champion had been in the running for the factory team Ducati seat alongside Francesco Bagnaia for 2025.

MotoGP's governing body had hoped to keep the Indian GP on the docket. Still, skyrocketing temps have forced them to cancel and replace the race with the formerly canceled Kazakhstanian GP.

For its home race, Aprilia has five RS-GPs on the grid with its two factory team riders, the Trackhouse Racing duo and wildcard Lorenzo Savadori.

Pramac rider Jorge Martin leads the championship on 155 points heading to Ducati's home race, with reigning champion Francesco Bagnaia his closest challenger on 116 points.
