A month after Manipur was engulfed in ethnic violence, only 18% of over 4,000 weapons, looted or taken away from police armouries have been surrendered with the authorities.

There was no incident of violence in Manipur in the last 24 hours and the state was “completely peaceful” on Saturday, security adviser to state government Kuldiep Singh said.

The surrendered weapons included self-loading rifles, carbine, AK and INSAS rifles, light machine guns, pistols, M16 rifles, smoke gun/tear gas, sten gun and grenade launcher.

A journalist with India Today has alleged she received “numerous threatening phone calls” with “mob” gathering at her hotel due to her reportage on the Manipur violence.
