Hitting out at the Centre over the situation in violence-hit Manipur, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh alleged that while the northeastern State is “burning”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is “silent”, Home Minister Amit Shah was “ineffective” and Chief Minister N. Biren Singh is “non-functional”.

The Manipur government on Sunday extended the ban on internet services in the state for five more days to prevent any disturbances of peace and public order. Read further on Dynamite News:

Cadres of Kanglei Yaol Kanba Lup (KYKL), a proscribed Meitei outfit, were released after a mob led by women prevented security forces from going ahead with a cordon and search operation near Itham village in East Imphal.

BRS suggests Centre lead all-party team to Manipur

Nearly two months after ethnic clashes broke out between the dominant Meitei and Scheduled Tribe Kuki-Zomi people in Manipur, tribal student bodies on June 24 held a silent ‘coffin march’ in the State’s Churachandpur district to honour those killed in the violence. 

The Manipur Police on Saturday said that the situation in the violence-prone state is tense but under control. Though some sporadic incidents have been reported in some districts, in most districts the situation is normal. Read further on Dynamite News:

An all-party meeting, convened by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, began in New Delhi on June 24 to discuss the prevailing situation in Manipur. Nearly 120 people lost their lives and over 3,000 have been injured ever since the ethnic violence broke out in the state on May 3.

Security forces fired several rounds of tear gas shells till midnight to prevent the mob from gheraoing his Khurai residence, police said. Read more on The Hindu

The Army said on June 23 that a large group of women who were part of a mob prevented the movement of additional personnel in areas bordering Kangpokpi and Imphal East districts in Manipur as “armed miscreants” opened fire at villages.
