A day after the Lok Sabha poll results were announced, the Union cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday recommended the dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha, whose term ends on June 16. Read further on Dynamite News:

The results of the Lok Sabha election held in seven phases across the country between May-June has been declared. While BJP emerged victorious in 240 seats out of 543 seats, Congress secured 99 seats. But what has caught the attention is the victory of several women candidates.

In the last two decades, Sharad Pawar has predicted poll results only twice. Once in 2004, when he said that Atal Bihari Vajpayee wouldn’t become the prime minister again. And next this year, when he forecasted around 30 Lok Sabha seats for the Maha Vikas Aghadi in Maharashtra.

Between March 31 to May 30, PM Narendra Modi conducted public meetings across 151 constituencies, of which the BJP-led NDA won 85 – a strike rate of 56 per cent. 

The states which fielded the highest number of turncoats have seen most of them trail behind – 14 of 19 in Telangana, 15 of 25 in Uttar Pradesh,  and 10 of 19 in Maharashtra.

As the global gaze turned to India in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha election results, some elite American universities also weighed in with their analyses on critical issues such as voter mobilisation, the risk to India’s democratic institutions, and the diaspora’s perception of national politics.
