AUSTIN – The GOP-led Senate agreed to give a full year of health care coverage to low-income women who’ve just given birth, but tacked on anti-abortion language that could complicate the bill’s passage.

For the third time, the Senate is pushing a proposal critics say will ignore the existence of LGBTQ people in every grade level. Two other bills that contained similar language missed key legislative deadlines.

The two chambers have 10 days to cut a deal before the end of the legislative session, and they are miles apart on some of the very foundations of a corporate tax-abatement bill considered to be a priority for Republican state leaders.
