Although it hasn’t signed a like-for-like replacement for its previous star Raffaele Marciello, who has switched to rival brand BMW, multiple new names will campaign the Mercedes-AMG GT3 in factory capacity across a wide variety of championships this year.

A prolific winner in Mercedes GT3 cars on both sides of the Atlantic and beyond in 2023, Jules Gounon’s second straight GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup title capped a year in which he also claimed a third straight Bathurst 12 Hour win.  

“It was a big choice from him because he could have had a lot more experienced factory drivers, but in the end, he went with me, gave me the opportunity and I think his trust in me just grew and grew.”

The 32-year-old Spaniard is one of four new drivers to have been added to the American marque’s works pool for the first season of competition for the all-new Corvette Z06 GT3.R, along with Earl Bamber, Charlie Eastwood and Nico Varrone.

Marciello and Engel will be joined in the event on the bill of the Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix on 18/19 November by Daniel Juncadella and Jules Gounon.
