Voters have approved recreational marijuana in Maryland and Missouri and rejected it in Arkansas, North Dakota and South Dakota

The marijuana legalization initiative in Missouri, known as Amendment 3, has been making headlines recently, mostly thanks to its opponents who are campaigning against it. Now, the measure is getting positive attention because of provisions expunging cannabis-related offenses either automatically or through an appeals process. 

Cannabis legalization efforts in Missouri are under attack once again, this time by The Missouri State Conference of the NAACP.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Prosecuting attorneys and marijuana legalization advocates are battling over the public safety impact from Missouri’s potential approval of recreational marijuana in November.

In Missouri, there are two citizen-initiated measures pending signature verification. One would legalize marijuana in the state. The other proposal would enact an electoral system combining top-four primaries and ranked-choice voting for general elections. The state must verify whether enough signatures have been collected by August 9.
