New research suggests that less than a quarter of women could cope financially without a partner’s pension in retirement.

People who are over the State Pension age could be due money, according to the latest data from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). And whilst woman are mostly affected, it should be noted that men are too.

DWP has paid back £209.3m in State Pension underpayments since January 2021.

The amount paid back so far is a ‘drop in the ocean’ when compared to the nearly £1.5 billion estimated to have been underpaid, one expert said.
