France and 14 other countries have launched a joint appeal urging governments around the world to express their support for recognising a Palestinian state. The announcement comes on the back of a United Nations conference in New York aimed at reviving the two-state solution.

The Prime Minister said the UK could take the step of recognising Palestine’s statehood in September, if Israel does not meet a series of conditions.

“The Palestinian people have endured terrible suffering. Now in Gaza, because of a catastrophic failure of aid, we see starving babies, children too weak to stand. Images that will stay with us for a lifetime. The suffering must end.”
