Epic Games has agreed to pay the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) $520 million to resolve concerns related to the Fortnite item shop, refund systems and children's privacy.

RALEIGH, N.C. — This week, the Federal Trade Commission announced Cary-based Epic Games would pay more than half a billion dollars in fines — a record amount — for a series of violations involving its most popular game, Fortnite.

The penalty is over allegations that Epic tricks 'millions of players" into making unintentional purchases in Fortnite.

Epic Games, the creator of the popular video game Fortnite, has agreed to pay $520 million to the Federal Trade Commission over complaints that the company violated children’s privacy law and forced unintended purchases through trickery.

The company is refunding $245 million to customers who made unwanted purchases because of poor game design, and is paying a $275 million fine for collecting personal data from kids without consent.
