With William Byron taking his series-leading fifth win of the 2023 season at Watkins Glen, 15 drivers have locked themselves into the playoffs. 

The NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, which features 16 drivers, takes place over the final ten races of the year, beginning with the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway from 1-3 September.

Wallace entered the road course at Watkins Glen with a 28-point buffer over the competition.

McDowell battled Daniel Suarez and later Chase Elliott, holding on to earn his second career NASCAR Cup Series victory and his first since the 2021 Daytona 500.

Entering the Cup race at Indianapolis, rookie Ty Gibbs held the 16th and final spot. He was just three points ahead of McDowell and five points clear of Daniel Suarez.
