In a rare incident, an albino puma cub was born in a zoo in the Central American country Nicaragua roughly a month ago. The tiny snow-white puma cub is one of the four such pumas across the world today.
The albino puma cub was born along with its two beige-colored and spotted siblings at Thomas Belt Zoo in Nicaragua. The cubs are almost a month old and they are said to be healthy. The cubs are kept in a sealed cage, to ensure that their mother is not stressed or she gets confused with the odour of humans from that of her newborn babies-- as this leads her to attack them. Meanwhile, the male puma- who has fathered the cubs- is also kept in a separate cage as the males are known for killing their young ones.
While the albino cub is healthy and doing well, they are said to need a lot of special care and attention as they are quite vulnerable when exposed to sunlight.
The cubs- including the albino puma cub- have so far not been examined by any vet and so their genders aren't known yet.
As per a Reuters' report, the zoo plans to exhibit the puma cubs to the general public after they are over three months old.
The Pumas are found in the Americas, from the southern Peru to the forest regions in Central America.
