Woman speaks of 'amazing experience' as dolphins swim next to her on Scots loch

A woman has described the 'breathtaking' moment a group of dolphins swam next to her as she kayaked on a Scots Loch.

Joyce Campbell was out on Loch Fyne near Inveraray when the surprise encounter happened.

Joyce, 55, a receptionist from Carmyle said: "It was quite unexpected. It's not something I've seen on Loch Fyne before, and I've been out kayaking quite a bit.

"I knew the dolphins were there in the morning - I had left the caravan park and went through two-and-a-half miles up the loch to Inveraray. There was a couple on a boat, about 50 metres away, who were interacting with what I thought was a pod of porpoises.

"Then they told me that it was actually dolphins, and that they'd been there yesterday too. I've never seen anything like that here before.

"Later on as I was heading back down in the kayak, one of my friends was out fishing. I was actually holding onto his boat at the time, and the next thing, the dolphins just appeared. They were so close to me.

"By the time I took my kayak gloves off and got my phone out, I was a good three or four minutes with them interacting round about.

"They were underneath my kayak, underneath the boat. It was just amazing. I told my daughter, 'that was one of the most amazing experiences ever'.

"I could have put my hand in and touched them, they were so close, and so curious. There must have been four or five of them. And they were so friendly. I was gobsmacked, it took my breath away for the six or seven minutes."
