A woman whose husband has been held hostage in Afghanistan since 2022 recently shared the heartbreaking details of her long-awaited phone call with President Biden as he nears the end of his term, aiming to solidify his foreign policy legacy.

Anna Corbett, whose husband Ryan is in Taliban captivity, had been advocating for a meeting with the president since Ryan's detainment began. Finally, she had the opportunity to speak with President Biden over the phone on Sunday. However, the conversation did not bring the outcome she had hoped for.

Corbett expressed her devastation, stating that while President Biden was kind and empathetic, he conveyed that he would not be bringing Ryan home. This news was crushing for Corbett, who has been tirelessly advocating for her husband's release and witnessing him miss important milestones.

Ryan was captured by the Taliban in August 2022 while in Afghanistan for business, a year after the U.S. withdrawal from the country. Since then, Corbett has been actively working to secure her husband's safe return, emphasizing the dire conditions he is facing and his declining health.

Despite her efforts, the White House confirmed that President Biden spoke with Corbett's family, along with the families of other individuals held by the Taliban in Afghanistan. Reports emerged that negotiations between the Biden administration and the Taliban regarding the release of U.S. citizens had hit a roadblock, with the Taliban preferring to engage with the incoming Trump administration.

Corbett, hopeful for a resolution, had met with incoming National Security Adviser Mike Waltz to discuss Ryan's situation. She expressed confidence in the Trump administration's commitment to bringing her husband and others back home, citing their concern for U.S. citizens and their willingness to prioritize such cases.

Despite the challenges and setbacks, Corbett remains optimistic about the future, believing that her husband will eventually be reunited with their family. She shared Ryan's desire to return home and be with his loved ones, highlighting his role as a devoted father and her determination as a mother to ensure her children have their father back in their lives.
